Life with iPhone

I’ve owned lots of ‘smartphones’ for years now and was always searching for the best/smartest/most powerful model to suit my needs. This was a gadget addiction, but driven by good intent because I could not genuinely find a device that worked how I wanted it to.

That all stopped when the iPhone finally arrived. The only new device I’m interested in now is the next iPhone - and the only addiction I have now is to apps. I can cite all the usual reasons why the iPhone is a success, but that doesn’t really matter to me now. What matters is this type of thing:

TODAY:

  • Woke up, put on my running gear, picked up iPhone & headset, launched the Couch25k app & my playlist and started off on my run.
  • Back from run, launched Tabata Pro to accurately time my post-run stretches (a great way to easily do these).
  • Finally I opened the Full Fitness app to run through some strength & toning exercises & track my progress (synced with a website too).

And all this before breakfast!

My iPhone continues to support whatever I’m doing during the rest of my day - even if I am sitting at my desk for most of it - and especially when I’m away from my desk.

But the best part is that the iPhone does this all so easily it’s practically frictionless, the tools are there when I need them and don’t get in my way when I’m using them. Apple worked hard on this device ever since it’s first iteration and I’m glad that I finally have a device that fits into how I work rather than me having to fit around how my device works.

It’s not perfect (and maybe never will be) but it’s the closest I’ve yet seen to perfection.
